Science Department

Our science curriculum encourages students to maintain a sense of wonder about the world. The curriculum reflects new developments on the international science scene, and positions science education in Ontario at the forefront of science education around the world.

The three goals of the science program include relating science to technology, society, and the environment; developing the skills, strategies, and habits of mind required for scientific inquiry; and understanding the basic concepts of science.

As students progress through the curriculum, they extend and deepen their understanding of the fundamental concepts of matter, energy, systems and interactions, structure and function, sustainability and stewardship, and change and continuity. The emphasis is on developing a deeper understanding of the 'big ideas' and requires that students understand basic concepts, develop inquiry and problem-solving skills, and connect these concepts and skills to the world beyond the classroom.
