King City Re-match

When? Friday Sept 16th, 7 p.m @ Oshawa Civic.

On Friday, the Holy Trinity Titans and King City Lions met up at the Oshawa Civic Fields for a rematch of their 2010 Metro Bowl clash.  While the game was considered an exhibition contest, there was definitely more on the line for both teams.  King City was out to prove that they had surpassed the Titans while Holy Trinity wanted to show their loyal fans that they are a legitimate threat to repeat this season.

King City dominated the first half and led 10-0 at halftime.  However, the Titans began to fight back in the third quarter.  Even though there wasn't any scoring in that frame, the Titans started to run the ball more effectively and QB Steven Courtney began to find a rhythm in the pocket.  The Titans brought the score to 10-7 early in the final quarter when Will Hepburn darted off-tackle for a short touchdown run.  After a quick defensive stop, the Titans took over and marched the ball down the field on a long, time-consuming drive.  Courtney hooked up with tight end Akil Goodridge for a long gain and with slightly less than two minutes remaining, Courtney called his own number and plunged into the endzone from the two yard line.

King City mounted a furious drive in the game's final minute and drove down the field to the Titans 20 yard line but a key third down stop by Nik Shymko caused the Lions to turn the ball over on downs and cemented a 14-10 win for the Titans.

While both teams made their share of mistakes in this preseason clash, Titans coach Fred Zinkie was pleased with the overall effort of his team and their ability to bounce back from a halftime deficit.  Both teams are now happy to head into league play, knowing that their new players gained experience playing under pressure against a quality opponent.
