On Sunday January 10th, 2010 HT held a $10 Haircutting Bonanza to support Unicef's “Spread the Net Campaign”.
Community Members, Students, Staff and families were invited to come in and for $10 were treated to a Shampoo, Cut and Style. Ms Cain Campbell, Aesthetic Program Teacher, Ms. O'Shea, a parent from our School Community were joined by other Licensed Stylists from Revolutions Salon and Spa: Lindsey Patterson, Mike Mercer, Gary Vos and Brittney Whittaker.
Students from our Aesthetics' program helped with shampoos, drying and styling the new hairdos. Social Justice Club students ran a bake sale, games, face painting and activities for the young ones waiting.
HT will be joined with Unicef and Rick Mercer in Spreading the Net for Prevention of Malaria in Africa. Every 30 Seconds a child dies of malaria. That’s 3000 deaths a day! Malaria accounts for 1 in every 5 deaths in Africa.
Malaria is transmitted by mosquito bites. $10 buys a Net treated with Insecticide that a family can use to protect themselves against mosquito bites. Holy Trinity CSS hoped to raise over $1000 to purchase 100 or more nets in this campaign. We surpassed that goal with the generosity of our community and have raised $1300 and that amount continues to grow with donations daily.
We wish to thank the staff of Revolutions Salon and Spa, Ms. Shea and Ms. Cain Campbell for volunteering their day to help such a worthwhile cause. And thanks to everyone for their support!
