Dear
Students, Parents and Guardians:
I
am writing to advise you of an exciting opportunity which has
arisen and which will enable students in south Courtice who
are eligible for Board supplied transportation to use Durham
Region Public Transit to travel to and from Holy Trinity Catholic
Secondary School.
Effective
October 1, 2007, students residing in the area south of Bloor
Street and who are currently transported to school on a school
bus will use transit buses to get to school. Transit passes
will be distributed by the school next week in order that students
have them in advance.
Public
transit is the same means of transport which has been used by
secondary students in north Courtice and in Bowmanville for
a number of years. The system has been very successful and provides
a flexible option (the passes can be used during the day on
week days) for students who need to travel to and from school
or other locations in Courtice at times other than morning start
and afternoon dismissal.
This
Memorandum is intended to provide you with time to gain an understanding
of the plans and ready for the service transition. For your
further information, attached, please find a summary of the
transit route which will serve the area and an indication of
the stops which will be used for student pick-up and drop-off.
In
consultation with school administration and Durham Transit,
this is viewed as a very positive opportunity which will effectively
serve student and school needs, while providing for sensible
cooperation amongst publicly funded organizations, including
the Region and the School Board.
Should
you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact
myself or Glenn Mutton, Route Supervisor, at the STSCO Office.
Sincerely,
Stephen
Jackson,
Operations
