Community Alternatives for School Suspension
 


C.A.S.S. provides programming to high school students in Clarington while they are serving their suspensions.

Our goal is to develop a structured and supportive environment to address issues that lead to school suspensions (peer pressure, decision making, drug/alcohol use, etc.) C.A.S.S. provides students with information and tools to reduce the instances of suspension.

Benefits

Student

  • Able to request academic support from a student success teacher
  • Increase self confidence and gain valuable life skills while participating in community involvement opportunities
  • Access to counseling services to assist in dealing with personal issues that may be affecting academic, family or social environment
  • Opportunity to develop self awareness and personal growth

Parent

  • Ensured that son/daughter has a safe and structured learning environment
  • Awareness of son/daughters progress while in C.A.S.S.
  • Access to all of JHS Services and supports
  • Introduction to local Community Resources

School

  • Alternative means to providing students with educational and personal supports while suspension takes place
  • Ability to track students success and partner with community agencies in order to increase further success of students
  • Ensured that safety and well being of students are maintained as top priority
  • Able to actively address reasons for suspensions outside of the school environment
