The
Team at OFSAA |
2007-08
turned out to be an amazing season for the Holy Trinity Varsity
boy’s hockey team. They won the LOSSA AA regular season
with an 11-1 record over teams from Pereyma, Central, Donevan,
Brock, St. Stephens and Dennis O’Connor. In the first round
of playoffs, they beat St. Stephens Two games to one and defeated
Brock two games straight for the LOSSA AA championship title.
Quite an accomplishment for their first year in the league. Winning
LOSSA qualified the boys for the OFSAA tournament in early April
in Ottawa. The team entered the OFSAA tournament seeded 6th out
of 20 teams. In their first game, they faced Forest Hill and won
4-3. In the second game they squared off against Father Redmond
and with 4.8 seconds left in a scoreless game, Mark Smith netted
the winner to send the Titans to 2-0 in the tourney. The 3rd game
saw H.T. square off against #1 seed Stouffville. The Titans got
into penalty trouble early and Stouffvilles potent power play
struck at will. The Titans battled back but giving Stouffville
five 5-3 advantages, they could not catch up and ended up losing
7-4. That left the 4th game of the tournament a must tie or win
for the Titans to advance to the playoff round. Facing a tough
Garneau squad, the Titans went down 2-0 in the first half of the
game. The boys battled back and tied the game. Garneau netted
a 3rd goal but with the clock winding down, Andrew Kerr scored
the equalizer and the Titans hung on to tie, thus advancing them
to the playoff round. In the first game of the playoffs HT faced
St. Theresa’s, this years COSSA champions. The Titans soundly
cleaned St. Theresa’s clocks winning 4-1 to move into the
final four. HT then faced Appleby College, a private school from
Oakville with the winner advancing to the Gold-Silver game and
the loser advancing to the Bronze-4th game. Holy Trinity played
a great game but regretted a few mistakes and lost 3-2. That moved
them into the Bronze medal game vs. Timmins. The boys had that
Bronze medal in sight and played their hearts out. Chris Moore
had 2 goals and Trevor Munce 1 in Holy Trinity’s 3-2 win.
It was the first time any team from HT had won a medal at OFSAA
and it was downright awesome. The boys were well behaved throughout
the week and kept working hard every game. On behalf of the coaches,
it was a pleasure to coach this bunch this year. Well done boys! |
